One of our Trainers Ruth Gray enjoyed a great scent work weekend in Wales with her dog Molly practising working for Customs and Excise ! The Welsh weather, with its typical propensity for floods, was all that prevented them doing river searches too. The river and lake were too turbulent to work.
Ruth says, "I've dabbled in scent work over the years with my dogs and would have been interested in taking it more seriously if I'd had time but I was doing competitive obedience, then agility and hoopers and I couldn't do everything - at least not properly. I started about two years ago doing regular training and have surprised myself how much I enjoy it. There's so much more to learn than I ever knew. This is an occupation that most dogs will enjoy and indeed benefit from."
She says she has already booked to return next year for four days, where the last day is on the beach searching sand dunes.
One of our Agility Trainers Lyn Francis has been busy at competitions and, with a little help from her dog Perri, she won out of Grade Two. Perri was the second to run in this agility class but remained first to the end.
Now, what you really need to know is that there were over 80 dogs in the class !
Well done Perri, awesome work; and well done Lyn for keeping up, can't have been easy !
We received a lovely 'Thank You' card from our friends at Helping Hounds Hampshire following the Club's donation after a year of fundraising through various events and donations.
